Week 2

Hello everyone! This is my second week with the STEM TRAIN program and am loving every minute of it!  I was assigned to start working with Stacy and her project on growing different Deinococcus species.  With this being said it was a first time for me doing a four way streak. I primarily focused on the ficus bacteria. I am really looking forward after the 48 hours incubation period to see if I did it correctly! Thank you all for your time and I will see you again next week!

Week one

Hello everyone! My name is Ben and I am a new student to the S-STEM TRAIN program. This is my first time writing a blog so this will be a new experience for me as well. This week has mainly been a crash course with a lot of new lingo thrown my way. One cool instrument that was introduced to me that I didn't have any experience with were the micro pipette's. In our lab we use four distinct ones: The P1000 which measures 200 - 1000 microliters, P200 measures from 50 - 200 microliters, P100 measures 20 - 100 microliters, and the P20 which measures 2 - 20 microliters. Hopefully my next post will have more in depth discussions about biology. Until next time!
